To Write or Not to Write Your Own Content?

We live in a world where "content is king".  And being able to market your business effectively online comes down to having good, original content. You need content that is engaging and educational for your audience. The goal is to establish your credibility in your given market and give your visitors a reason to keep coming back to your site.

Then comes the question: should you write your own content or should you hire someone to do that for you? Can you even outsource that kind of stuff?

For a lot of businesses that are self-funded, the primary concern is keeping costs down. The initial reaction is usually “why pay someone to do something that I can do myself?” We've talked about this issue before in whether to create your own website yourself. So we’ll ask again: why spend your time doing something that you don’t love to do or that someone can do better than you? Or, even better, why do something you’re not being paid to do when you could be spending your time in a more profitable way?

As a business owner, you have to wear many hats. There are some aspects in your business that only you can do. Wouldn't it be a more valuable use of your time to do the things that only you can do that are going to drive your business forward?

This is the perfect chance to leverage another’s skills and expertise. When it comes to writing the content for your website, you have to be sure that the content is clear, concise and to the point. Visitors attention span is dwindling by the second, especially with social media platforms like Twitter that require you to put your message out there in 140 characters or less. With such a short window to get your message across to visitors on your website, your content has to be good.

At Clicks & Mortar Websites we're all about doing what we're good at AND what we love to do. We excel at building great websites for our clients. It's also important to understand you own limitations.  To build a great website is more than just great design; it's about content, too. That's why we've partnered with the brilliant team over at Slanted Communication and Consulting for all of our content needs. We know that have a beautiful, functional and effective website, the design has to be combined with great content. Slanted's team can put their many years of marketing experience to work for you to help you craft the perfect message for your visitors.

So to answer the question of writing your own content or not? We side on the option of "not", and not because we don’t think you can do it, but because you have better things to do.
